How we calculate this
- Kasco sizes are from Kasco Marine's De-icer Sizing Chart. An angled install makes an oblong opening (width × length), a vertical install a round one. Kasco assumes unobstructed water, a large deep lake and more than 4 ft of water at the de-icer.
- Scott Aerator sizes are the diameter of ice cleared at 0 to 10 °F, from the Scott sizing chart on our product pages.
- Ice Eater sizes are the diameter of opening Bearon lists for each horsepower (1/4 HP: 20 to 25 ft; we use 20 ft).
- Longer docks get more units side by side. The open area changes with wind, current, depth and weather, so call us if you're unsure.
