How we calculate this
- Deeper than 15 ft: 1 diffuser per acre. 10 to 15 ft: 1 diffuser per 2 acres.
- 7 to 10 ft: 1 surface aerator per acre, or 1 diffuser per 5 acres for retention basins and ponds 20 years or older.
- Shallower than 7 ft: an aerating fountain.
- A pond with an island needs 1.5 × as many units (rounded up to whole units).
- Aeration pump size (CFM) = surface area (sq ft) × 0.01 + volume (gallons) ÷ 1,000.
